Common Questions About
Paint Correction
Expert answers to help you understand the restoration process.
What is the difference between Polishing and Waxing?
This is the most common misconception. Waxing adds a temporary layer of protection and short-term shine, masking minor issues. Polishing (Paint Correction) is an abrasive process that physically removes a microscopic layer of clear coat to level out scratches, swirl marks, and oxidation. Polishing fixes the problem; waxing just hides it.
Will Paint Correction remove deep scratches?
It depends on the depth. If you can catch your fingernail in the scratch, it has likely penetrated through the clear coat and into the base paint. In these cases, polishing will minimize the appearance significantly but cannot fully remove it without repainting. However, for 90% of surface scratches, swirls, and scuffs, our process will make them vanish completely.
How long does the service take?
Unlike a standard car wash which takes minutes, true Paint Correction is a labor-intensive craft. A single-stage polish (for gloss enhancement) typically takes 1 day. A multi-stage correction (for heavy scratch removal and restoration) can take 2–3 days depending on the condition of your vehicle and the hardness of the paint.
Do brand new cars need paint correction?
Surprisingly, yes. New cars are often transported via rail or truck, sitting in holding yards exposed to industrial fallout. Furthermore, dealership washes often introduce swirl marks before you even buy the car. A "New Car Prep" polish ensures your paint is perfect before applying long-term protection like Ceramic Coating.
Is this safe for my vehicle's paint?
Absolutely. We use electronic paint depth gauges to measure the thickness of your clear coat before we touch it. This ensures we only remove the absolute minimum amount necessary (often less than the thickness of a post-it note) to restore the shine while leaving plenty of clear coat for the future life of the vehicle.
